  19. This is Dr. Sapovadia, a resident of Saurashtra region from where Sourashtrian community has migrated in South India.

I am writing this mail to connect this great community with current Saurashtra.

I came to know about this community, when my son was preparing for UPSC. It is matter of pride for us that you have maintained culture after thousand year. I have read little about you, but I could see there is lot of similarities in your language, culture and kitchen…..

Why we should not keep a meeting or conference or sneh milan of our leaders in Saurashtra.

Saurashtra has 7 districts namely Junagadh, Rajkot, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Jamnagara, Porbandar, Surendranagar etc. We can invite all MLAs and MPs, industrialists, academicians and social leaders and try to establish community relations.

I am professor working in Ahmedabad, but originally from place near Junagadh.

    With regards,
    Dr. Vrajlal Sapovadia
    Director, SBS Ahmedabad

Sourashtra or “Sourashtras” refer to a community of people who originated from Gujarat and now settled in different parts of Tamilnadu. They are also called as Palkars or in Tamil as Pattunulkarars which refers to the silk thread workers.
