If the people of the race are glorified and honoured in history, it is certainly owing to their splendid, iridescent gems of that race. These men, being noble and magnificent themselves, are the polestars of their race and they guide other men to lead a life as noble and magnificent as their own. Hence, the people of this race have a great duty to hand down to the succeeding generations the glory of those torchbearers.

Since time immemorial, there is one characteristic quality that runs in the blood of Sourashtrians, Devotion to God. There is nothing they would not give away to evince their love of the Almighty. Several sages have been born in this race who dedicated themselves totally to a life of devotion and disclosed to the people what is good in life. One of these outstanding sages is Sri Dhoopa Theerthaarya Swamigal. It is said that his hymns to God had a tremendous power over Nature. Once, when Tanjore was struck by famine, he brought relief to the town by ceaselessly singing the glory of Lord Vishnu for nine hours. With the God given Beejaatchara on his tongue and Kundala in his hands he showered his devotion with songs on the Lord wherever he went.

Legend is that Sri Dhoopa Theerthaarya Swamigal once went, with boundless love, to have a dharsan of Sri Pallikonda Perumaan (Lord Vishnu), finding the doors of the temple closed, he sang the Kirthana "Morohouru" in a melting tone, after which the doors opened on their own by Lord's grace. Once when swamigal was totally absorbed in his worship of the Lord of the Seven Hills at Tirupathi, all of a sudden a screen there caught fire. Our Sage was said to have extinguished the fire by the sheer power of his devotional songs.
