In 1886 Sourashtra Primary School was started in Madurai. Now it had grown into Sourashtra Higher Secondary School. The Minority Linguistic Community's special rights was given to this school. Sourashtra language is being taught in the evening hours. The Sourashtran's Cultural festivals,"Basavanna Kolatta Sangamam", Draupathi Amman Agni Vasantham festival, Avani Avittam are celebrated in this school. Diamond Jubliee was celebrated in the year 1964. The dedicated headmasters   Thiru S.K.Kuppusamy, Thiru R.K.Venkatraman, B.R.Rajaram got the award for best teachers and brought laurels to the school.

Sourashtra Higher Secondary School is one of the biggest schools in the state.For the past 88 years, the midday meals scheme was started and  is being continued successfully till now. The midday meals scheme was started for caterpulating economically backward Sourashtran children to get educated. This scheme was started by Thiru Sankara Narayanier (Paramakudi). This school came under the management of Sourashtra Sabha in 1911. The Administrative council for the school is selected and the school is maintained by them.

Sourashtra Vidya Mathar Sangam, helped Sourashtran Community leaders to start Sourashtra Girlls school. The traditional system of early marriage of girls was changed. Education was given to Sourashtran Community girls. Sourashtra Girls Higher Secondary School was inaugurated by Governor Suhadhia.

"Sitalakshmi Girls Higher Secondary School" is situated in Tirunagar, Madurai. This school is managed by "Sitalakshmi Charity Trust". In the earnest presence of Industrialist Thiru C.S.Ramachary, the school was started. He dedicated a huge amount of money and labour for the welfare of Women's Education. He donated a huge sum of money to start a Sourashtra Primary School in Tanjore. 

In Paramakudi Sourashtra Higher Secondary School and Kalidoss Primary School are situated .In Salem Sourashtra Middle School was started in 1889 and managed under Sourashtra Vidya Sabha. Surashtra Vidyasalai (Middle School) is situated in Salem Sevvaipettai. Thiru K.R.Krishnamoorthi dedicated himself for the welfare of these two schools.
